However, there are still many challenges that children in Moldova face, such as poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and social exclusion. Violence. 2 in 3 children in Moldova experience some form of violence before the age of 18. Prevalence of physical violence against children: 60% . Prevalence of sexual violence against children: 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys (UNICEF) Child health. Infant mortality rate: 7.3 deaths per 1,000 live births. Prevalence of stunted growth among children under 5: 17.9% (UNICEF, 2021). Prevalence of anemia among children under 5: 25.9% (WHO, 2021) Education. Net enrollment rate in primary school: 88.7%. Net enrollment rate in secondary school: 77.6%. Completion rate of primary education: 82.6%. Completion rate of lower secondary education: 65.7% (UNICEF, 2021) Child poverty. 1 in 4 children in Moldova live in poverty (UNICEF, 2021). Child poverty rate increased from 33.5% in 2012 to 40.1% in 2019 (National Bureau of Statistics, 2020)
