BRVC PLAY DAYS GUIDE
This guide describes the process used to place girls on their teams. Keeping with the philosophy of the club, all girls will be placed on a team.
THE PURPOSE OF PLAY DAYS
The Bluegrass Region Volleyball Club uses play days to allow girls to get back into the swing of volleyball and so the BRVC coaching staff can assess each player's skills and abilities and then assign each player to the team where she will have the best chance of individual success and be most capable of making a significant contribution to her team's success.
PLAY DAYS OVERVIEW
Day 1 (No formal evaluations will take place on this first day)
- Wednesday, December 3 at the Woodford County Middle School Gym
- 6:00-7:30 for grades 5-9; 7:30-9:00 for grades 10-11
- Girls need to bring the following completed forms: Medical Release Form, PioneerVB Membership Application Confirmation, and BRVC Membership Agreement
- Parents need to pay the $40 non-refundable fee, which will go towards the club fee if the athlete accepts the team to which she is assigned
- After stretching, girls will participate in drills run by BRVC coaches
Day 2 (Formal evaluations begin)
- Friday, December 5 at the Woodford County Middle School Gym
- 6:00-7:30 for grades 5-9; 7:30-9:00 for grades 10-11
- After stretching, formal evaluations will begin
- Girls will participate in the following drills run by BRVC volunteers as the BRVC coaches evaluate:
- Vertical jumping and agility
- Passing
- Hitting
- Serving
- Queen of the court
Day 3 (Formal evaluations continue)
- Wednesday, December 10 at the Woodford County Middle School Gym
- 6:00-7:30 for grades 5-9; 7:30-9:00 for grades 10-11

- Girls will be able to participate in the drills, run by BRVC volunteers as the BRVC coaches evaluate, that are specific to one or two of the following positions; these drills will be followed by queen of the court:
- Defensive specialist
- Setter
- Hitter
Day 4 (Girls meet their teammates—Practice times will be set by team assigned either 6:00 or 7:30)
- Friday, December 12 at the Woodford County Middle School Gym
- 6:00-7:30 or 7:30-9:30 will be announced by team
- Since teams will be announced on the BRVC website on Thursday, December 11, the purpose of this days for girls to have their first practice as a team
- $155 is due of girls accepting a spot on a middle-school-aged team (grades 5-7)
- $180 is due of girls accepting a spot on a high-school-aged team (grades 8-11)
COACH EVALUATION
An important part of the play day process is having BRVC coaches evaluate each athlete to measure her attitude, effort, ability, and communication skills. Consider the following questions that coaches may ask themselves:
- How does the athlete respond to pressure situations?
- Is the athlete's interaction with others positive or negative?
- Does the athlete play hard all the time?
- Is there communication between the athlete and others?
Relax, have fun, and let’s play ball!

Official Hotel of the Outback Kangaroo Classic
To the parents of those attending the Outback Kangaroo Classic on March 21 and 22 in Independence, KY. Originally we planned on staying at the Holiday Inn, as is noted on the schedule page of the BRVC website. Unfortunately, this hotel has no record of our group having rooms blocked off. In the meantime they are completely booked as are several other hotels that I have contacted. Therefore, I have found and reserved / blocked off 12 rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott in Florence, KY. for Saturday night (March 21). I also have 5 rooms blocked off for Friday night, March 20, in case some of you are interested in leaving early. Each room has two double beds and are all non-smoking. The hotel has an indoor pool as well. The distance to the volleyball tournament is approximately 15 minutes.
In order to hold your room, you must contact the hotel directly through the "Reservation Link" provided. This will connect you to the hotel representative, Sandi Hill. You must give a credit card and number to officially hold and reserve your room. We have a deadline to get this done. Individual reservations need to be made by Tuesday, March 10. We will loose the rooms after that date. The cost for 4 per room will be $104.00. This INCLUDES their hot breakfast buffet (normally $9.99 per person - open at 7:00 am).
Reservation Link: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/cvgfl?groupCode=brvbrva&app=resvlink&fromDate=3/21/09&toDate=3/22/09
If you have any questions, please contact Sandi Hill at (859) 371- 6464 x422. We are reserved under the name BRVC.

I hope this helps. If I can answer any questions, feel free to call me (Laury Gardiner) at 873-0330.
Original Hotel Recommendation:
If any of your players and their families will be spending the night. We are referring your club members to stay at Holiday Inn Cinncinnati/NKy Airport. They are offering a reduced rate of $95 and that includes breakfast. This is an newer hotel with a indoor pool. Real nice. It is about a 15 minute drive to our facilities for play. http://www.whihotels.com/ebrochures/hicincinnatiairport/ Have your parents call the hotel direct at 859-371-2233, ask for Michelle and mention the Outback Kangaroo Classic.
